This year the Enform H2S Alive course celebrates its 35th anniversary. Originally the course was created by the CAODC Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors. The course was created in 1978, because of a need for training on H2S, for example there were 8 fatalities in that year alone. Currently the ten year average for H2S fatalities in Alberta is 0.3. A remarkable change, it is surprising to see the difference training can make.
The biggest changes to the new course are:
-a new section on H2S Hazard Assessment,
-case study sections can now be tailored to the audience
-updated section on function testing and calibrating electronic monitors
-removal of CPR portion.
-removal of detector tube hands on section for students.
The changes reflect modern day practices in the industry.
If you have recently taken the current H2S Alive course, do not worry, the course will be valid until the expiry date on the certificate.
In September MI Safety Inc will rolling out our new H2S Awareness and Rescue course, in an online format.
